This week was family and friends orientated, leading to enjoyment but also some emotional conversations, as my Grandmother is declining rapidly. We’re starting to plan for the future, something I think no family wants to do, but things only get worse if we don’t have the best plan whilst everyone is still relatively sane. Even so, those conversations weigh heavily on my mind and bring into perspective one’s mortality, even if that is (hopefully) some years away.
Monday began in Gran Canaria, and I can think of few better places for a Monday, even if we were travelling that day! However, we experienced many delays meaning that our already late arrival in the early hours of Tuesday was made even later. Getting into bed at 04:30 and working the next day tested my limits. We had a fabulous time in GC, a much-needed break in the sunshine. The last sun for our year, I expect.
I’ve finally signed my new contract after many “right to work” processes (I don’t care if “foreigners” come and “steal” our jobs, as that isn’t a thing). Now the contracts are signed, I can set up calls to meet the new team - how exciting!
D and I had a fabulous meal out on Thursday night at our local pub. The food there is always top quality, but it was excellent that night. We also ate out on Saturday night at a local curry house, which was exceptional also. D and I agreed not to eat out again for a bit, as our digestive systems have gone into overdrive (and our waistlines to match). However, we totally forgot that we’re going out next Sunday for my Aunt’s birthday celebrations for, you guessed it, another curry (there’s a theme).
D and I had in-depth discussions about our future in response to the mental political, and economic climate. We’ve decided to proverbially “batten down the hatches” for as long as possible whilst making financial sacrifices where possible, as I’m sure many families are in late 2022 in the UK.
This week also saw the, in my view, delightful resignation of Liz Truss. One would assume we now need a general election, but who knows these days. I finalised some investment decisions this week, some of which can’t be executed until next, but that doesn’t worry me too much as things seem to have stabilised after Truss has gone.
In summary:
- Family planning;
- Finally signing contracts on my new role;
- Too much eating out (can never be a bad thing);
- D and I plan for the future;
- Liz Truss goes (not a surprise, but ever the farce);
- What do we do with our money now?
