I had to take B to the vet on Monday this week as he had quite a nasty ear infection. The vet said, “Oh we haven’t seen you in a while, since December 2022”, well I think that is not long enough. Anyway, we now have some expensive eardrops (that I can thankfully buy from Amazon), and the issue seems to have cleared itself up.
My parents have been “up north” this week (they’re northerners who have run away to the south), so we were out for food, cooking food at home, sharing food, talking about food - the usual stuff our family does, food and board games. It was amazing to see them, as we didn’t know if we would get time as they were really up here for a friend’s wedding.
At work, things have been hectic. We’ve been creating some new Terraform modules, which has been both challenging and rewarding, as during the build, I am doing some training for the rest of the team. Additionally, we’ve been replacing some legacy Terraform layers, which is a big step forward for us. All the hard work is getting us closer to removing Jenkins entirely, something I can’t wait for!
I’ve also dipped my toe back into PHP development, something I have done since I started earning my own money 14 years ago. We have external developers who couldn’t understand how easy it was to authenticate with the AWS API via the PHP SDK using time-based access, so instead of explaining, I just did the code change. It was nice to do something different, and to me, that breadth of knowledge is what DevOps is good at (and why we’re paid accordingly).
In summary:
- Spent some time with the parents;
- An expensive trip to the vet;
- Terraform modules + training;
- Upgraded some legacy code;
- Dipped my toe back into PHP development.
